Alien Workshop "Mind field"
The year of 2009 has been filled with some of the heavist skate videos to come out in sometime. Starting off with the Alien Workshop video, “Mind Field” the bar was set to one hell of a standard right out the gates. Set to their usual werid artsy vibe, Mind field easily became one of my favorite videos in the last decade. Showcasing up and comers like Jake Johnson, with his unusually stylish ability for such a tall guy,(Animal Collective set his part off!!!), Tyler Bledsoe, went from looking like the little nerdy to kid you over look, to one of the most talented skaters to come along in a long time. Of course we can’t forget Grant Taylor the one man wrecking crew. Kid handles any kind of terrain you put in front of him and he was deservingly beumped up to the pro ranks shortly after.
As for the seasoned veterans the did not disappoint. Jason Dill created a master piece of a part. It was like watching a one in a million painting come to life with his quirky approach to a variety of non hammers back to basic skating. Anthony Van Engelen came out of hiding and made you remember why you were so stoked on him before. With his powerful and faster than hell way of skating, AVE did not hold back on any obstacle he slayed showing he isn’t afraid to step his rail game up. Lastly we have Heat Kircahrt. The elusive, mysterious character he has built up for himself always keeps people intrigued to what he has up his sleeve next. We’ll let’s just say he had plenty of gnar and then some. Morrissey blasting the tunes, and Heath blasting over full sized streets, the man in white had an ender part that will easily as be remembered as one of the landmark sections as was hie Sight Unseen part to this day people still are amazed by.
In all Mindfeild was a joy to watch from the opening credits. The great soundtrack only solidified the greatness of the flick. Aliens unique way of presenting skateboarding to the masses gives you a feel of just how much more of an art form rather then a sport skating is.

Sorry ‘bout last week, had a flashback of my own and lost track of everything… Anyway this weeks video is Lennie Kirk’s part from Alien Workshop’s 1996 offering “Time Code.” Dude was pretty fucking crazy after the last fall in his intro on hte dumpster, ,and getting ran over bombing a hill in SF. Kinda made him phase out of skating, his switch skills for back then are amazing…(note hte cross that is made out of the sunrays into the camera on his switch backside 180 5-0 on hubba at the end, sure that made him feel even more Jesusy)
